Heat exchanger maintenance and cleaning is known to be a time consuming and dirty task, onboard marine vessels and offshore applications. From a detailed verification towards the marine sector, typical overhaul time for an average sized plate heat exchanger seems to be 8 hours - a typical days work.
With the Pleat heat exchanger this task can be completed in 5 - 25 minutes, depending on just replacing the element to a clean one, or including the cleaning time also.
The video link below shows the simplicity in draining, opening, replacing the element and closing the Pleat heat exchanger. Cleaning the element is done with a standard jet water washer.
The video shows a prototype at appr 250kw, but the same process applies for up to 1000kw units. Larger applications should be rack mounted, achieving redundancy that allows for full maintenance without interrupting the operation (single units can then be isolated and maintained).
PS: Is your coffee still hot after the video? Imagine a mechanic fetching his coffee before overhauling the heat exchanger, but taking the coffee break after the work is done. Now its possible.
